Production queues are much
like assembly lines. They are
historically, and still are,
one of the more flexible types
of workflow.
This is how they work.
A set of queues is set up in
advance. The production
process starts with an "order"
in one of the queues. The process
ends with the "order" being
placed in a designated "closed"
or "voided" queue.
When a user with access
to a queue finishes their task,
they push it to the next queue.
This process continues until all
the production steps have been
completed.
Advanced systems differentiate
between assigned (owned) and
unassigned (open) tasks within a
queue. Other features may include
text and email notifications,
reporting on the time to
complete each task, queue and user
specific transfer options.
Queues are used in light
manufacturing (like furniture
production), HR onboarding,
multi-stage QC processes, shipping,
logistics, and more.
