It's a 64-bit world, kind of.

Apple's new 64-bit mobile iPhone has made it a race. The world is racing to 64-bit hardware. Across all platforms. PCs, desktops, and soon, all iPhones and Androids.

Not wanting to be left out, we thought it would be appropriate to make our own announcement. Here it goes... drum roll please.

The next version of our database engine, Aestiva Array, will no longer be limited by the internal 2 gigabyte (32-bit) file size limit. Bottom-line -- whereas the current version limits internal database files to 2 gigabytes, no such limit exists on the upcoming version of Array.

If you've followed us for a number of years you know we're super-committed to backward-compatibility and cross-platform compatibility. So, in keeping with our philosophies, the new version will be backward-compatible and run on both 32 and 64-bit operating systems. On 32 and 64-bit Linux, MacOS, and 32 and 64-bit Windows servers. You'll even be able to move Array from a 64-bit system back to a 32-bit system -- although you will probably never do that.

So there it is. That was our announcement. The new version will be available in November. Okay, we doubt we'll get the same interest Apple got, but if you're an Aestiva customer who has to purge records from a database to keep it from exceeding internal 2 gigabyte limits, then you may want to put a call into your Aestiva Account Coordinator and ask them for the upgrade. Whether you're running on a 32-bit or 64-bit system, the upgrade will take you past the 2 gigabyte limit.
