There are three requirements to operate Aestiva LiveHelp:
1. You need an account on a Web server.
2. You need an active cgi-bin in the account.
3. You need a copy of HTML/OS (Runtime or Professional).
Aestiva LiveHelp runs where ever HTML/OS can run -- on shared accounts, co-located servers or in-house servers. It can also operate off the web (On servers behind a firewall or off-line production web servers). It runs on almost any kind of server
Requirements for operating on shared accounts, intranets and co-located or dedicated servers are described below.

OPERATING AESTIVA LIVEHELP ON SHARED ACCOUNTS |
If you are running a web site on a shared account at a hosting provider that provides CGI access, then you will most likely be able to run LiveHelp. LiveHelp has almost a 100% installation success rate.
IT WOULD BE 100% BUT SOME HOSTING PROVIDERS WHO ADVERTISE CGI ACCESS DON'T ALLOW BINARY CGI PROGRAMS TO RUN IN THE CGI FOLDERS THEY PROVIDE.
Installing Aestiva LiveHelp does not require any server configuration and in general, no communication or support from your server administrator or hosting provider.
|
LiveHelp can operate with as little as eight (8) Megabytes of RAM. Virtual hosting accounts rarely place limits below this level so if you are operating at a virtual hosting account, it is unlikely you will run into RAM limitation problems.
|
We recommend you have about 20 Megabytes available on your server.
|
Aestiva LiveHelp requires no support on behalf of the hosting provider. Most hosting providers who require approval on CGIs approve Aestiva LiveHelp.
Aestiva HTML/OS, the engine used by Aestiva LiveHelp, has built-in cgiwrap to protect hosting providers, built-in security so users of LiveHelp cannot access other parts of the web server, and low CPU needs. Hosting providers want to provide users with advanced capabilities but can only do so if the programs running on their servers do not burden their servers or their support staff. Aestiva LiveHelp accomplishes this to the satisfaction of hosting providers worldwide.

OPERATING AESTIVA LIVEHELP ON INTRANETS
|
If you are running a web site on your own server then you can operate Aestiva LiveHelp.
You will need a web server. Use any CGI 1.1 compliant web server (such as Apache, IIS, Netscape Enterprise, MS Personal Server, etc..). Once your web server is set up you can install Aestiva HTML/OS. Then, after this is installed, Aestiva LiveHelp is installed. No additional software or hardware is needed. No additional RAM is needed.
The difference between operating LiveHelp on Intranets and the web is minimal. On Intranets your domain name may be something like mycomputer whereas on the web the domain name always has an extension. It looks like www.mycomputer.com. Other than the differences in the domain name, operating LiveHelp on an intranet or a web site is the same.

OPERATING AESTIVA LIVEHELP ON CO-LOCATED WEB SERVERS
|
If you are running a co-located web server then you can operate Aestiva LiveHelp.
Most co-located web servers come pre-installed with an active CGI 1.1 compliant web server (Such as Apache, IIS, Netscape Enterprise, etc..). No additional software or hardware is needed. No additional RAM is needed.
